Early Childhood Educator

The County of Hastings is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Part-time Early Childhood Educator at the County Administration Building.

The primary function is adhering to legislative requirements; this position is responsible to provide a program to assist children to achieve optimum physical, social, emotional and intellectual development.

Duties

• Plan and implement learning activities to meet the Ministry of Education’s requirements and provide a wide range of stimulating materials and activities.
• Oversee activities that foster all areas of a child’s emotional, cognitive, social and physical development.
• Supervise children and focus on the individual development of each child. Observe, evaluate and identify their unique needs.
• Liaise and work cooperatively with a diverse range of professionals and other members of the community, including school staff, special education coordinators, resource consultants, parents and licensing officials.
• Uphold and ensure all Ministry regulations as outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.
• Ensure supplies and equipment are organized, clean and well maintained.
• Plan healthy snack options using Canada’s Food Guide, purchase groceries, prepare and serve to the children in a sanitary environment.
• Provide temporary coverage for programs in all county run programs when required.
• Other duties as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications

• Post Secondary School Early Childhood Education Diploma, Child and Youth Care Diploma or Recreation and Leisure Diploma
• Must be a member in good standing of the College of Early Childhood Educators OR member in good standing with the College of Teachers
• Participate and be successful in all other training as required by the College of ECE and the County of Hastings.
• Must possess up to date First Aid and CPR certification.
• Current immunizations are required.
• Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check - must be dated within 30 days of hire
• Ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, co-workers and outside agencies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on interacting with children to foster an environment conducive to their wellbeing.
• Must possess a valid “G” driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

Hours of Work

As per Article 19 of the Collective Agreement.
